Walks of ART Founder and Director, Shawn Burnett, was voted by citizens of Baltimore as their Hometown Champion for the work that he does via Walks of ART!!
We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to the Wal-Mart Foundation. With their grant, given through the Local Facility Giving Program and store #2290 (Owings Mills, Maryland), Walks of ART is able to continue its endeavor to transform Baltimore City communities through art.
Black Male Engagement (BMe) hosted a two-day retreat last December (2013) in Miami where they honored the winners of BMe’s leadership awards. The recipients were presented with special jackets that they can wear back in their hometowns when they are representing their BMe chapter. An estimated 130 men attended the two-day event.
Walks of ART Founder and Director, Shawn Burnett, was one of the events attendees. BMe granted Walks of ART $10, 000, in May of 2013 to help continue its work with the youth and young adults of Baltimore City. Walks of ART is apart of the Expand-Ed endeavor at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School, organizaed through the BELL Enrichment program. The school day for these youth is from 8am-6pm. Not only do they encounter traditional classroom learning, outside organizations such as Walks of ART come in to facilitate various enrichment programs, in order to assist in with increase of academic achievement!!
